A spokeswoman for Urban Family Communications is taking exception to an award handed to the rapper Lecrae last night by the Christian music industry.

Lecrae was named artist of the year Tuesday night at the 46th annual Dove Awards. He also took home awards for rap/hip hop album of the year and rap/hip hop song of the year.

Meeke Addison, director of communications for Urban Family Communications, tells OneNewsNow that Lecrae has repeatedly rejected the label “Christian rapper.”

“What he has consistently and repeatedly rejected is the genre of ‘Christian rap.’ He has repeatedly rejected it,” she emphasizes.

“So why then does this Christian award outlet need to award him ‘artist of the year’? Why? It is unfair to actual Christian rappers
