FOX is set to air a two-hour live musical event this coming spring. The Passion will air live from New Orleans, the hometown of host and narrator Tyler Perry. FOX’s Entertainment President David Madden stated, “Tyler Perry is the perfect host to lead the cast — and viewers — through the streets of New Orleans in this contemporary re-telling of a timeless story.”
NBC has proven that live musical productions can draw in big ratings, as The Wiz Live that aired earlier this month drew in a strong 11.5 million viewers. FOX hopes to follow suit with The Passion that is set to air March 20th, the Sunday before Easter. The Passion is set in the modern day, and it will follow Jesus through the events of the last supper, Judas’ betrayal, his own conviction, Crucifixion, and resurrection.
