The Madame Walker is doing a great thing…

Two locations, one great event! Begin at the Indianapolis Urban League (777 Indiana Ave.) then march together down Indiana Avenue for a short walk to the Walker Theatre (617 Indiana Ave.) for an uplifting program.

Event Highlights:

  • 8:15 am – Continental breakfast for the first 100 guests provided by The Food Guys Inc. and Starbucks at the Indianapolis Urban League.
  • 8:50 am – Freedom March to the Madame Walker Theatre Center led by the Iota Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Inc.
  • 9 am – MLK Day of Celebration commences with Mayor Joe Hogsett as our keynote speaker.

We will also pay tribute to the late radio personality and activist Amos Brown, state rep. William “Bill” Crawford, and philanthropist and entrepreneur William “Bill” Mayes. This event is FREE and open to the public. Congressman Andre’ Carson, Senator Joe Donnelly, City-County Council members- President Maggie Lewis and Leroy Robinson, and Deputy Mayor of Neighborhood Engagement, Dr. David Hampton will provide remarks between performances from Iibada Dance Co. and the North Central Northernaires with Walker Theatre Board Member and City-County Councilman Vop Osili as the Master of Ceremonies.
