Gabrielle Union is currently at the Sundance Film Festival promoting her new film Birth of a Nation, where she was asked her opinions on Stacey Dash’s comments.

Last week, Stacey Dash weighed in on the Oscar controversy saying she thinks Jada Pinkett Smith is a “hypocrite,” and there should be no BET Awards or black history month.

When asked to comment on Dash’s statement Union said, “Who’s Stacey Dash?”  Union went to to say, “Is she like related to Dame Dash? Was she on Roc-A-Fella? I heard of a crazy lady once, maybe last week. But I don’t know what her name is.”

Union then explained that the Academy Awards tend to award the mainstream media, and the purpose of having BET awards is to celebrate those who aren’t seen in the mainstream media.  Union used the comparison of country music having Country Music Awards to celebrate music that isn’t pop.

The Academy Awards are set to air February 28th.  You can read more on this story here.
