Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter and R&B artist Leon Bridges has been making a name for himself, touching the hearts of listeners everywhere. Especially since his album “Coming Home,” and its single of the same title, made its way around the internet last year.
But with the video for the album’s latest single, “River,” he’s provoking a bit more than the usual groove to his beautiful vocals and his signature comforting, nostalgic sounds. He’s making you think and feel. In Leon’s words, which you can read above, the video is a “message of light,” in the midst of all the hurt, and pain currently occupying many of its subjects.
Shot in Baltimore, the video takes you on a journey of today’s struggle for black men and women, telling these stories in a way that showcases the beauty in each of the people we see, even in the midst of hardship. The Baltimore Uprising is a huge influence to the video for “River,” and in watching it, it certainly does not go unnoticed. Check out the video for “River” below.
