An Omaha high school janitor, Roy Smith, is getting a lot of attention after a recent video of him singing Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come” goes viral.  He joined Burke High School’s orchestra performance on stage earlier this week, where he was the highlight of the concert.

A student posted a short clip of Smith to twitter, and it is now being passed around the internet.  Smith told ABC News that the students asked him to join their performance.

Students have said that they hear Smith singing away in the hallways as he works, and it’s easy to see why the students enjoy it.  Smith says his motto is, “Whistle while you work.”  Smith said, “I’m like that every day.  It brings joy to the students. The ones that are down and out, I give them something to cheer them up.”

Smith notes that he does most of his singing at church, and he has been singing ever since he was little.  This isn’t the first time Smith has gone viral though.  He got noticed after he joined the school’s choir on stage at a Christmas concert two years ago.
