Gospel Legend Daryl Coley Makes Heaven His Final Resting Place

(October 30, 1955 – March 15, 2016)

TBR – Social Media took on a life of its own Tuesday evening (March 15th) as it announced the passing of the Greatest Male Gospel Singers of all time, Daryl Coley.  Later in the afternoon family members stated that Daryl Coley was currently in hospice care and was being comforted by family and friends.  But only a few hours later, the legendary Daryl Coley, transitioned to be with the Lord and made Heaven his final resting place.

It was just in 2014 when BMI celebrated Coley along with Richard Smallwood and had this to say. “Coley’s voice is an inimitable instrument which fuses musical genres into a unique and mellifluous sound.  His multi-decade career began as a singer with Edwin Hawkins, which led to being a songwriter and musical director for Lady Tramaine Hawkins.  Lead vocal appearances on recordings for James Cleveland’s Gospel Music Workshop of American resulted in Coley’s solo debut, Just Daryl.  Following was a string of Stellar, Dove and GRAMMY nominations for career-defining albums including Beyond the Veil: Live at Bobby Jones Gospel XII and Oh, the Lamb.”

Coley recorded a landmark collection of more than 100 studio performances and worked with some of the music industry’s legends, including Stevie Wonder, Nancy Wilson and Philip Bailey.  Most recently, he received a Doctorate of Sacred Music from the Ray of Hope Theological Seminary and Bible College International School of Divinity.

*Personally, Daryl Coley is one of the people who inspired me to create my television show, Inspirational Praises that aired on WRIC TV-8 in the late 80’s, early 90’s!  He was one of the first Gospel artists to push out a music video accompanied by a great stage wardrobe. From his hats to his wardrobe bright colors to his energy and pure tenor vocals, he was truly one of the greatest!   He will truly be greatly missed!
