Sony’s inspirational saga Miracles From Heaven was well-received at the box office, debuting at #3, with a $15 million weekend opening.

The faith-based drama began showing in theaters Wednesday, March 16, grossing in total, so far, $18.5 million domestically, surpassing its $13 million production budget.

It also received a rare “A+” CinemaScore from moviegoers and is generating solid word-of-mouth buzz.

Miracles from Heaven beat projections from analysts and distributor Sony Pictures, thanks to an effective campaign run by marketing chief Josh Greenstein and his team, aimed at church groups, Hispanics and African-Americans.
