The head of IMPD is creating a board that will review the guidelines for police pursuits.  The goal is to reduce the number of chases.  IMPD figures show there were 452 pursuits last year, damaging 386 vehicles at a cost of more than 900-thousand-dollars.  Chief Troy Riggs says the overriding concern is the safety of officers and those in the path of the pursuit.  The review committee is expected to recommend new guidelines on August 1st.

The city of Cleveland has reached a $6 million settlement with the family of Tamir Rice over the police shooting death of the 12-year-old boy. Mayor Frank Jackson confirmed the news Monday pointing out that the settlement does not include any admission of guilt. The city will pay the Rice family half of the settlement this year and half next year.

The reaction:  The head of the Cleveland police union says the settlement awarded to the family of Tamir Rice should be used to educate children about using look-alike firearms. The president of the Cleveland Police Patrolman’s Association, Steve Loomis, released a statement saying he hopes the Rice family and their attorneys use a portion of the settlement to educate the youth of Cleveland about the dangers of real and fake guns. The statement comes after Monday’s word that the city had settled a lawsuit with the family to the tune of $6 million. Rice was shot and killed by a Cleveland police officer while holding a pellet gun outside a recreation center in 2014—seconds after police arrived on the scene without questioning or investigating whether the child had a toy.

Religious leaders are objecting to Mississippi’s new religious objections law. Dozens of Methodist leaders from around the state and the nation criticized the law in an open letter published Monday. The letter says the law goes against Christian teachings to love and respect all people. The ministers are joining legal experts, businesses, and human rights groups who say the law discriminates against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people. The law allows churches and some private businesses to deny services to LGBT people because of religious beliefs.

The superstar musical icon was still recovering from double hip surgery from a few years ago, according to the Mirror and had revealed he was born Epileptic for the first time on the Tavis Smiley television show. It’s unknown what the status of his Epilepsy was in recent years.
