Last year Misty Copeland made history, as she was named the first African-American woman principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre.  She is making history again, as she unveiled her very own Barbie on Good Morning America yesterday.

Copeland said she worked closely alongside the Barbie team to make sure the doll resembled her as much as possible.  Copeland noted that the doll has muscular legs, and stressed the importance of getting the doll to resemble her body type.

The Misty Copeland Barbie is wearing her notable Firebird costume, which is what she wore at her first ABT principal role.  The doll is part of Barbie’s “Sheroes” line, which was designed to inspire young girls.
