Here are some things that are taking place this Mother’s Day weekend in Indy!

This morning was the 40th Running of the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon. It is the first race of many in the month of May! The Mini has sold-out for the past ten years. The Mini-Marathon is the largest half-marathon in the U.S., and overall, the fifth largest running event in America.

The 500 Festival Mini-Marathon Expo takes place on Thursday and Friday, before the half-marathon at the Indiana Convention Center. Participants pick up their race packets and visit the booths of more than 80 companies and vendors. The Expo is open to the public, with over 40,000 people attending.

Congrats to all who ran or walked and finished!

Mother’s Day Weekend at the Indianapolis Zoo

During this fun, annual event, the Indianapolis Zoo puts the spotlight on all mothers — both human and animal.

The recognition begins right as you enter the Zoo with a special “Proud Mom” sticker. The fun is just beginning as the whole family participates in the Zoo-wide scavenger hunt. Follow the clues to discover several Zoo mothers and interesting animal facts along the way. For example, did you know that a mother elephant carries her calf for 22 months? Or that the whole group, or pod, of dolphins help to raise young dolphins? Once you finish the exciting hunt, stop over at the White River Gardens Gift shop to receive a special gift!
