It’s been a violent overnight here in Indy. Four people were hospitalized early Tuesday because they were all shot in two separate incidents on the east side just about a mile apart. WRTV 6 says the first happened around 3:30 a.m. in the 1400 hundred block of Wallace Avenue. That was three men. About an hour later, another person was shot in the 4000 block of East 12th Street. The victims have been taken to area hospitals for treatment–some to Methodist and others to Eskenazi. These violent incidents followed a double shooting just after midnight on the near-east side that left one man dead and a woman critically injured in a car found in the intersection of Lasalle and Robson streets.

Indianapolis Metro Police are investigating a burglary that could lead to more weapons being on our city’s streets. There was a break-in at the Gander Mountain sporting and outdoor store just north of Castleton Square Mall overnight, according to various media reports. What we know now is that the ATF—that’s the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives says an unknown amount of firearms were taken and that store personnel are trying to get on top of it by doing an inventory. WTHR-TV reports that IMPD confirmed to them that at least eight long guns and two shotguns were taken. If you have any info on this weapon nabbing break-in, call Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS.

Indiana Lawmakers have met to talk about stripping convicted sex offenders who are former teachers of their licenses or teaching certificates. They met yesterday and State Rep Robert Behning says it may be best to eliminate a post-conviction licensing hearing.  He says a criminal conviction should be the end of someone’s teaching privileges here in the state.

While Indiana’s GOP delegation is embracing and enjoying their moment in the spotlight at the Republican National Convention, which happens when your governor runs for vice president as is the case with Mike Pence, things don’t stop at home. Democrat John Gregg is continuing his campaign to become this state’s next governor. Gregg met with the Indianapolis Baptist Ministers Alliance Monday at the Olivet Missionary Baptist Church. Gregg says all of the candidates who could replace Governor Pence on the Republican side are very similar to the current governor when it comes to jobs and public education.

Speaking of those who’ve thrown their name in the ring…The most furious campaigning in the Republican race for Indiana governor won’t be here in the state this week. All three of the candidates who want to replace Governor Pence are at the Republican National Convention. Lieutenant Governor Eric Holcomb as well as Congresswoman Susan Brooks and Congressman Todd Rokita are meeting with the party faithful this week. Indiana’s Republican committee says it should choose a new candidate by the end of next week.

Prosecutors could decide today on charges against a man who held five people hostage Monday night to keep police at bay in Beech Grove. Officers arrested the man after a nearly six hour standoff. No one was hurt. Police say the suspect held two small children and three adults in the home while he talked to police.

Investigators say they think the 13-year-old who drowned Sunday on the city’s northwest side died saving another boy.  IMPD officers say Amadou Sow was pronounced dead at St. Vincent Hospital. His father tells police that Sow went to their apartment complex’s pool with a neighbor. Police think Sow helped save the other boy before slipping below the water.

A police union in Baltimore is again calling on the city’s top prosecutor to drop charges against officers awaiting trial in the death of Freddie Gray. Fraternal Order of Police President Gene Ryan called on State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby to stop what he called her “malicious prosecution.” Ryan spoke after the acquittal of a third officer–the most senior one who gave orders–charged in Gray’s death.

Republicans are expected to formally nominate Donald Trump for president during the GOP convention in Cleveland today. That will happen during a traditional roll call of the states in the convention hall. The convention got off to a rough start Monday when members of the “Never Trump” movement demanded changes in convention rules. Republican officials rejected an effort to hold a state-by-state roll call vote on the rules.

So what’s all the ‘hubbub’ about the speech given by Donald Trump’s wife at night one of the GOP Convention? Did Melania Trump and a team of Trump campaign writers plagiarize from a speech given by Michelle Obama at the Democratic National Convention eight years ago?
