“Day Four” of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia is getting underway today with the delegates on a high from the previous night’s speakers. On Wednesday night, President Barack Obama spoke, raising the roof sending Hillary Clinton to the general election. He told the crowd, “There has never been a man or a woman more qualified  than Hillary Clinton to serve as president.” Virginia Senator Tim Kaine officially accepted the democratic vice presidential nomination. After doing so, Kaine then targeted GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump who still hasn’t released his taxes. Directly, he asked, “Hey Donald, what are you hiding?!!” Vice President Joe Biden also targeted Trump during his address to the dem delegates, “He’s trying to tell us he cares about the middle class—give me a break!” On tap for the final day of the #DNC2016 today…Hillary Clinton will make more history when she officially accepts her party’s presidential nomination. Clinton’s daughter, Chelsea Clinton, will introduce her.

Here in Indy…

Rep. Andre Carson (D-IN)

Indianapolis Congressman Andre Carson says he knows Governor Mike Pence.  Carson told his fellow Democrats at the #DNC2016 Wednesday night that the Pence he knows has “terrible judgment.” Carson told the crowd about Indiana’s fight over religious freedom laws (RFRA) and promised that Clinton wouldn’t fight such fights in the White House.

The Indiana governor’s race is off to a fresh start after the two candidates met as opponents for the first time. Republican Eric Holcomb says he’s prepared to run despite joining the race late because he has relationships built from his service over the years in various capacities ranging from his work with Senator Dan Coats to Governor Mitch Daniels and his duties as state party chair. Holcomb and Democrat John Gregg smiled and shook hands Wednesday at the Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center. Both candidates were there to speak at the AG Policy Summit. Gregg said he declared his candidacy for governor, stayed in the race and wants to serve as Indiana’s governor. He added he doesn’t pay much attention to polls but he does listen to Hoosiers. Holcomb was chosen by Republicans to replace Governor Mike Pence in this year’s election.

Republican vice presidential nominee Pence is campaigning in Michigan today. He’ll hold a town hall in suburban Grand Rapids with a thousand people expected to attend. It will be in a more intimate setting than Donald Trump’s last appearance there with Pence speaking from a stage in the center of a room.

On the crime blotter…Bullets are flying in this city once again with deadly consequences. Indianapolis Metro Police officers answered a call this morning around 3:45 a.m. and found a man shot to death inside a car in an intersection near the 3000 block of West 18th Street. That’s Medford Avenue. Metro police are investigating this incident, according to various media reports, in addition to a triple shooting near the Indiana School for the Deaf on the city’s north side. That shooting, which happened Wednesday night around 10:30 p.m., left one of the three victims dead and the others critically wounded. They are fighting for their lives at Eskenazi Hospital.

The family of the man who died in a shootout with Indianapolis police this week say they want to know why officers fired so many bullets. Jeff Tyson died in that shootout after he shot an IMPD officer in the ankle before speeding off leading multiple police units in a cross-town chase. Tyson’s mother, Linda Asim, says she thinks the 200 bullets officers fired were excessive. She wants to know why police kept shooting at her son.

Metro police are looking for a man they say tried to commit a terrible crime.  He’s in his 30s and broke into a home and tried to sexually assault a child.  IMPD investigators say it happened early Wednesday morning in the 1400 block of South Belmont Street. Call Crime Stoppers if you have any info at (317) 262-TIPS.

Donald Trump Holds Campaign Rally In Las Vegas

Source: Isaac Brekken / Getty

There’s a popular Google search on this Thursday to tell you about, because more people are wanting to know whether the latest thing Donald Trump has done is legal. “Donald Trump Treason” is the term that has spiked on the search engine after the Republican presidential nominee seemed to invite Russia to hack Hillary Clinton’s emails. Trump said during a press conference Wednesday, “Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you can find the 30,000 emails that are missing.”

Now that Trump is the official nominee of his party, he gets government intelligence briefings, and that’s causing a stir. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid says intelligence officials who brief Trump shouldn’t give him any important information. He wants them to “fake it” because Trump, according to Reid, is dangerous. The Nevada Democrat told this to The Huffington Post after Trump’s appeal to Russia to hack to find the emails deleted off Clinton’s private server. Intelligence officials are strongly suggesting Russian hackers, possibly directed by the Kremlin, broke into the Democratic National Committee’s computers. The release of those DNC emails seems to show the party worked to support Clinton and undermine Bernie Sanders during the primary season.

Speaking of release…WikiLeaks is at it again. This time…

they are now releasing what it says are audio files from hacked voicemails from the Democratic National Committee. Days after it released thousands of emails from DNC officials (the emails mentioned in the previous story), WikiLeaks has posted more than two dozen audio files. Three of them sound like they are from a woman who’s angry the DNC is giving Bernie Sanders too much influence. The caller threatens to leave the Democratic Party unless the DNC stops “coddling” the Vermont Senator.  At least three other calls deal with two former U.S. ambassadors inquiring about access to White House functions.

Pope Francis is carrying on with his day after falling earlier during an open-air Mass in Poland. The Pontiff is there to mark World Youth Day.  He was quickly helped to his feet after the fall, took a seat and then continued on with Mass. He’s a 79-year-old sciatica sufferer which is a condition that sometimes causes him pain in his lower back and legs.

Accounts from former First Lady Abigail Adams differ greatly from Bill O’Reilly’s comment that slaves who helped build the White House were “well-fed and had decent lodgings provided by the government.” The Fox News commentator offered that view after First Lady Michelle Obama said in her Democratic National Convention speech on Monday that she wakes up “every morning in a house that was built by slaves.” Abigail Adams lived there during construction with her husband, President John Adams, and wrote of seeing slaves “half fed, and destitute of clothing” laboring while their owner watches on.

The federal government is cracking down on debt-collectors who harass and intimidate people. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is rolling out a plan today that would set limits on when and how often collectors can call.  It will also help people dispute errors.  Without evidence that how much they are trying to collect is accurate, they couldn’t actually seek payment.  Complaints about debt collectors account for a quarter of all complaints received by the bureau.

In Sports…

It’s “Day Two” of the Indianapolis Colts’ training camp in Anderson at Anderson University. Practice kicks off at 1:55 p.m. Eastern.

Indiana doesn’t have an anti-discrimination law. But Indianapolis has an ordinance that city leaders hope will keep Indy in the running for college sporting events. Indianapolis is reviewing its laws in the wake of a new NCAA discrimination questionnaire. The NCAA, which is headquartered in downtown Indy, is quizzing cities that want to host basketball or football championships about everything from bathroom laws to civil protections.

Indianapolis Weather…

It may be another day to keep an umbrella handy. Cloudy Thursday morning with scattered thunderstorms Thursday afternoon. Today’s High: 82 degrees.
