Start of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, Ellen Pompeo, says she recognizes the importance of representation for her bi-racial daughters.  Pompeo recently spoke with People Magazine where she said representaiton is “super important.”

Pompeo and husband of nine years Chris Ivery, who is a music producer, make sure their daughters see lots of diversity in the television they watch.  Pompeo stated, “My daughters are black so it’s very important to me that they see a lot of images of beautiful, powerful, strong black women.”

Pompeo also stated, “Every time there is a black woman on a magazine cover, whether it is Kerry Washington or whoever it is, I make sure that magazine is in my house and on my table. For me, that’s super important.”

Pomeo and Ivery have two daughters, two-year old Sienna May, and 6-year-old Stella Luna.  Read more here and here.
