A lot of people in Indiana are fat, drunk, and unhappy. That’s the shocking results from a new survey out on this ‘Throwback Thursday’ by the folks at WalletHub. Indiana scores 40th on the survey sites new “Happiness Index.” That means the Hoosier state is the tenth least happy state in the country. WalletHub looked at everything from emotional well being, to obesity and binge drinking, to food security. Indiana also didn’t do so well in emotional well being when they took a look, ranking 44th. Which state is the happiest? Utah. At the other end of the spectrum, West Virginia took the honors for being the the most miserable in the nation.
WalletHub talked to various experts about happiness. One of them, Darrin M. McMahon, author of the book “Happiness: A History”, and who serves as the Mary Brinsmead Wheelock Professor of History at Dartmouth College, told them that some of the key ingredients to a happy life were cultivating friendships, gratitude, hope, forgiving and forgetting, and finding purpose.
