In order for the Bible to take effect in our lives, we must remember what it says. Psalms 119:11 (ESV)
says, ” I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
Today, I am presenting you with five ways to do just that:
1. Weekly verses. Pick a verse, any verse, and make sure you read it all week! And not just one
time per weekday, multiple times so that the scripture becomes ingrained in your memory.
2. Take it slow. If the verse you’re planning on memorizing is particularly long, or you want to
memorize an entire chapter, do it in stages. Break the scripture up into several parts, and perhaps
give a week or so to each “individual” part. Then you’ll be able to recite the verse (or chapter) with
ease.
3. Where is it? Learn the book and chapter that the verse is found in, as well as the verse number.
Then, if you have trouble remembering the words of your scripture, you can easily turn back to your
Bible and locate it by number.
For example, instead of saying, “Jesus answered, ‘It is written: Man shall not live on bread alone, but
on every word that comes from the mouth of God’,” say this, “Matthew 4:4: Jesus answered, ‘It is
written: Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
