Good day as Circle City Classic events continue, making for a busy weekend. More below…

Indianapolis Metro Police detectives aren’t saying much about a double homicide on the city’s west side. IMPD officers found a man and a woman dead in a home on Thursday in the 3500 block of Soaring Eagle Court. Police say one of the victims was shot and they’re not saying what killed the other. Neighbors say they’re shocked that someone could be killed in their neighborhood which has always been quiet.

Update (12:52 p.m.):  Metro police are now identifying the victims as Victoria Valdez, 39, and Vincent Grant, 31.

The candidates for Indiana Governor, Libertarian Rex Bell, Republican Lieutenant Governor Eric Holcomb, and Democrat Former Speaker of the Indiana House John Gregg, will discuss why each of them thinks he should be elected to lead this state and more on Sunday, September 25, in a Gubernatorial Forum at the Central Library—downtown. The event is hosted by The Indianapolis Recorder newspaper in partnership with us here at the stations of Radio One. It gets underway at 1 p.m. and will also be broadcast live on 106.7 WTLC-FM, AM-1310 “The Light”, Hot 96-3 WHHH-FM, and Boom 102.9. Keeping in mind that ‘all politics is local,’ this event is the perfect lead-in to Monday night’s first presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, moderated by NBC’s award-winning anchor, Lester Holt. It will be broadcast on all major networks and linked on our webs. The event, hosted by Hofstra University will air for 90 minutes beginning at 9 p.m. Eastern.

Events of the 2016 Circle City Classic continue in high fashion today. This 33rd annual event features Central State University versus Kentucky State University. Here’s a rundown: The NCAA Classic Coaches Luncheon gets underway at 11:30 a.m. at the Westin Hotel downtown. The Major Taylor Award Honoree this year is boxer and Olympian Claressa Shields. Shields is the first American boxer to earn back-to-back gold medals. (Click her name above and see a clip of her in action.) The pep rally takes over Monument Circle at 4 p.m. where fans can get their first peek at the colleges bands in action. For music fans, the Cabaret is at 7 p.m. featuring Frankie Beverly & Maze, Lalah Hathaway and more at the Indiana Convention Center in Halls A, B, and C.

The fun goes ‘classically’ down on Saturday with the Fan Fest and Tailgate beginning at 10 a.m. downtown on South Street in front of Lucas Oil Stadium and the parking lot. The Circle City Classic Parade kicks off also at 10 a.m. winding down Pennsylvania Street, and up Meridian Street. Game time is at 3 p.m. featuring the Thorobreds vs. the Marauders going head-to-head on the gridiron, with a battle of the bands at halftime and a concert immediately following the game so organizers want you to stay and enjoy the live music around 6 p.m. The event funds youth initiatives and scholarships of a collaboration between Indiana Black Expo, Inc. and the Indiana Sports Corporation.

Indiana Governor and Republican vice presidential candidate Mike Pence is calling Donald Trump the “real deal.” Pence told a town hall in Colorado Springs Thursday, Trump won’t forget law enforcement or military members who defend the country. Pence also discussed the riots in North Carolina, saying people should be free to protest peacefully but not engage in violence against citizens or property. He openly criticized Democrat Hillary Clinton for suggesting there was “systemic racism” in law enforcement. A recent Quinnipiac poll of Colorado showed Trump and Clinton were tied at 47 in a two-way race, while Clinton had a small lead when Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson was mentioned.

A third night of protests there in Charlotte has ended a lot more quietly than the first two after a police officer shot and killed a black man, Keith Lamont Scott, on Tuesday. More police and National Guard troops patrolled the streets last night as a curfew went into effect at midnight. A person shot during earlier riots died from his wound. Meanwhile, attorneys for Scott’s family say the family still has questions after seeing the video of his shooting. Police say they won’t release that video publicly…so it’s unknown if the victim had a gun and did something wrong, just had a gun in an open carry state or had a book as witnesses have claimed.

And to Tulsa…

A police officer there is being charged with manslaughter for shooting an unarmed black man who had his hands up. Oklahoma’s District Attorney says Officer Betty Shelby is facing first-degree manslaughter charges for the death of Terence Crutcher, who was shot beside his stalled vehicle in the middle of a road early this week. A court filing says Officer Shelby became “emotionally involved to the point that she overreacted.” Shelby was booked into jail overnight and released a short time later on $50,000 bond.

President Barack Obama is expected to veto a bill allowing 9-11 victims’ families to sue Saudi Arabia in U.S. courts today. The veto will set up override votes in the Senate and House next week. A veto override is a definite possibility as the legislation got overwhelming support from lawmakers. The White House argues that the measure could strain relations with Saudi Arabia, a key U.S. ally in the volatile Middle East. The White House also warns that the bill could prompt retaliatory legislation and lawsuits against Americans overseas.

The Colts seek their first win as they host the Chargers on Sunday at home at Lucas Oil Stadium. Indianapolis sits at 0-and-2 following losses to Detroit and Denver. San Diego enters at 1-and-1 after beating Jacksonville last week. Kick-off is at 4:25 p.m. Eastern. Quarterback Andrew Luck told reporters that he’ll be on the field.
