@kwellscomm PraiseIndy.com “Access Indy” Political Headlines —
The outgoing governor of North Carolina is leaving his Democratic successor with less power. In what seems like a ‘parting shot’ from a sore loser who needs to ‘show you better than he can tell you,’ Republican Pat McCrory signed legislation Friday that will limit Governor-elect Roy Cooper’s ability to make appointments to state boards. The Republican-dominated North Carolina state legislature passed several measures that restricts the governor’s power in a surprise special session. Democrats are calling it “a power grab” weeks before Cooper takes office.

Cooper, who served as the State Attorney General, has threatened to sue the legislature over the new measures. Meanwhile, at least 18 people protesting the moves at the state capitol in Raleigh were also arrested on Friday.

Sidenote: The outgoing McCrory, who is also known for signing controversial legislation that removed protections for LGBT citizens (‘The Bathroom Bill‘), has already made his trek to Trump Tower in New York City to meet with President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team. He made his pilgrimage on December 7 after staging a virulent hold out to remain in the governor’s seat and not conceding his loss to Cooper for almost a month.
This partisan power move by a GOP legislature against an incoming governor from the opposite party will be one to watch.
