While there’s nothing at all wrong with showing off your fashionable side and enhancing the natural beauty God has given you with make up and snazzy threads, if you look put together outwardly, while you’re all broken down inwardly, that’s no good.

Real beauty is realized from the inside out. So Empowering Everyday Women is giving you our tips for a spiritual beauty makeover.

See yourself through God’s eyes.

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10 NIV)

You have been handcrafted by the finest designer of all—God. You were not created to focus on superficial things, but rather, “to do good works” and fulfill your purpose on earth. So then, seeing yourself through God’s eyes is to zone in on your divine design—your reason the Master placed you here.

Surely this is easier said than done because, as women, we often use society’s secular perspective as the measuring stick to quantify our worth. If we don’t fit the typical mold or body type that the majority calls beautiful, we can begin feeling less-than. But don’t fall into that trap. Focusing on the outside is a distraction from the real point of your existence.

External things are not the essence of real beauty.

“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes.” (1 Peter 3:3 NIV)

I am a shoe lover. I don’t discriminate. I enjoy wearing heels, flats, wedges—all types and styles. I admire a well put together outfit, hairstyle and makeup job just as much as the next person. However, the Bible says “outward adornment” is not the essence of beauty.
