Good morning to you on this stormy Thursday also known for a few national observations. Today is National Doctor’s Day, National Take a Walk in the Park Day, National Pencil Day and finally National “Am I in Control Day?”

Speaking of ‘stormy,’ there’s a chance for strong and severe storms across parts of Indiana today. Forecasters say just about the entire state can expect some rain. You may want to keep your umbrella handy. Forecasters also say the chance for severe weather increases the further south you go. Here in Indy today, we have a slight risk of storms, but there’s an ‘enhanced risk’ down around the southern tip of the state.

Shooting In Lower Manhattan Federal Building

An Indianapolis Metro Police officer involved in a shooting last October won’t face charges for shooting a suspect. Police shot Gerald Cole in the back and arm on October 19, 2016 when investigators say officers were responding to a theft call. Investigators say Cole attacked one of them from behind and tried to take his gun from its holster. Members of a grand jury spent two-days listening to testimony and examining evidence regarding the incident and found no probable cause that a crime had been committed.

This city’s three week murder-free streak is now over. Metro Police say they think an east side death earlier this week involved foul play. Investigators say Stefanie Coulson died from an ‘undisclosed trauma.’ IMPD officers say they’re still working on Coulson’s case.

Police authorities in Evansville say the case of a missing disabled woman has come to a tragic end. On Wednesday, Vanderburgh County’s coroner identified badly decomposed remains as those of Aleah Beckerle. According to police, she went missing in July of 2016. Beckerle was confined to a wheelchair. Police found her body in an abandoned home. There’s no word yet on her cause of death.

Mayor Joe Hogsett is hoping to find and fill two-thousand summer jobs for the city’s youth.  It’s part of his Project Indy initiative that has a goal of providing “experience, useful skills and productive alternatives to crime and gangs.” The jobs will be available to Marion County residents between ages 16 and 24. Get an application at the Project Indy website. Store owners are warning Indiana lawmakers that closing a cold beer loophole could shutdown more than just a pair of convenience stores. Lawmakers pressed forward with legislation to stop stores mainly at gas stations on Wednesday from using restaurant liquor licenses to sell cold beer. The measure moves into the House next week. But Grant Monahan with the Indiana Retail Council says the proposed law would also stop golf courses and other non-restaurants from selling beer as well. The plan is in response to Ricker’s convenience store using the loophole to sell cold beer at two of their gas station locations.

Eyes are on a southern U.S. legislature. North Carolina officials say the Republican-controlled legislature there and Democratic Governor Roy Cooper have reached a deal to repeal the state’s controversial “bathroom bill.” Late on Wednesday, they announced a deal just hours ahead of a deadline to repeal the law or lose business from the NCAA, based here in downtown Indianapolis. The NCAA announced on Tuesday that it would pull championship events out of North Carolina until 2022 if the law wasn’t repealed.

President-Elect Donald Trump Holds Meetings At His Trump Tower Residence In New York

Members of the Senate Intelligence Committee, who are looking into possible Russian meddling into the U.S. election, are promising bipartisan cooperation in their probe. The panel is holding a rare open meeting on the investigation today. So far, 20 people have been scheduled for interviews, including President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner. Committee chairman Richard Burr, a North Carolina Republican, says the investigation will go wherever the facts lead it. Burr also said the hearing aims to provide more public awareness about “what Russia is up to.”

More than a dozen people are dead after a church bus crash in South Texas. State troopers say 13 members of the First Baptist Church in New Braunfels died Wednesday when a pickup truck slammed into their bus. The bus driver and eleven passengers died at the scene. Two other passengers were airlifted to San Antonio hospitals, where one died.

The FAA says an American Airlines co-pilot died while landing a plane in New Mexico. The Boeing 737 flying from Dallas to Albuquerque was two miles from the Albuquerque International Sunport at the time. Emergency personnel performed CPR on first officer William Grubbs for about 40 minutes before he was pronounced dead.

A federal judge in Hawaii is extending the injunction against President Trump’s travel ban. The decision by U.S. District Judge Derrick Watson means the ban on travel from six mostly Muslim countries will remain blocked as long as it’s being fought over in court.

Chicago Bulls v Indiana Pacers

The Pacers are getting a major assist on a season where they may need one to get and stay over the hump. Lance Stephenson is returning to Indy.  ESPN is reporting that Stephenson has signed a three-year, $12 million deal with the Pacers–the first two-years of that contract are guaranteed and there’s a team option on the third. Stephenson who is as well-known for ear-blowing as he is for his dominance on the court, spent four seasons with the Pacers before his 2014 departure. Maybe he’ll do something else comical that will turn into memes that go viral as he helps the Blue ‘n’ Gold win.

Weather…

Thunderstorms likely. A few storms may be severe. Today’s High: near a pleasant 70 degrees.
