Exciting changes are coming to downtown Indianapolis. Boxcar Development LLC, spearheaded by Pacers owner Herb Simon and his family, is set to build a 13-story, 170-room Shinola luxury hotel and a 4,000-seat concert venue at 230 S. Pennsylvania St.
This $300 million venture will replace the existing century-old CSX railroad service building, which will be demolished. The new development will include the Shinola hotel with upscale accommodations, a high-end Shinola retail store, fine dining establishments, and additional retail spaces along Pennsylvania Street.
An elevated walkway will link the hotel to Gainbridge Fieldhouse, and a two-level parking garage with 253 spaces will be available for guests and visitors. The concert venue, operated by Live Nation Entertainment Inc., is expected to host top-tier entertainment.
Although the project is connected to Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Pacers Sports & Entertainment will not be involved. The development is projected to open by late 2027, marking a major enhancement for downtown Indianapolis.
