Rich Tolbert Jr., the chart-topping gospel artist known for soul-stirring worship anthems, recently stopped by Get Up Mornings with Erica Campbell, where Cheryl Jackson and Mr. Griff welcomed him to discuss his newest single, “He Shall Reign.”

The song, like many of Rich’s anthems, is more than music. It’s a reflection of his personal journey, one filled with valleys, battles, and powerful encounters with God. He told Cheryl and Griff that the inspiration for “He Shall Reign” came during a difficult moment in his life—alone in his room, overwhelmed and in tears.
“I was crying about life,” he said. “And God said to me, ‘I reign over everything.’ My finances, my health, my family, the kingdoms of the world—He reigns over it all.”
This revelation became the foundation for his new song, following a string of moving anthems like “Never Be Defeated,” “I’m Alive Because There’s More,” and “Miracle Worker.” All were birthed from real-life experiences, including Rich’s own battle with blood cancer.
“The doctors told me I had 10 to 15 years to live,” he shared. “And that it was incurable. But I said, ‘Never be defeated.’ That became my declaration.”
Rich explained that writing these songs is more than just a creative process—it’s spiritual warfare. “The enemy stays on my trail,” he said. “But my songs come from experience, from digging into the Word and holding onto God’s promises through every trial.”
Griff was moved by the testimony. “Dude just gave us a sermon,” he said with a laugh. “I’m hyped. ‘He Shall Reign’—I’m on it right now.”

Looking ahead, Rich revealed he’s working on a new project with a choir—a shift that he says represents a fresh season in his life.
“This is a surrender season for me,” he said. “Everything’s new. I’m just walking into whatever the Lord has next.”
