INDIANAPOLIS–A police officer was shot at West 16th Street and Lafayette Road on the west side of Indianapolis Tuesday afternoon.

IMPD says a car was stolen near 16th and Harding Streets at around 2 pm and the driver pulled into an apartment complex around 2:15 pm. Later, the officer was shot and the officer was able to shoot one of the suspects.

They believe there were two suspects in total. Both of them were arrested. The suspect who was shot was taken to a hospital. Police believe two other suspects may have ran away from the scene.

The police officer who was shot is in “stable condition.”

A gun was found at the scene and police are not looking for anyone else.

Today’s is the fourth IMPD police shooting of 2025, the second this month. Of the three previously, two suspects died, including the one on July 24, and another was injured. IMPD had 17 police action shootings in 2024.
