From the late 1970’s to the early 1990’s, Jay Johnson, known on air, in the community and the broadcasting industry as “Super Jay” was one of the major forces behind the Golden Years of WTLC-FM on the 105.7FM frequency. Super Jay Johnson brought a major market style of Black radio to Indianapolis. As Program Director of WTLC, Super Jay worked closely with General Manager Al “The Bishop” Hobbs to make WTLC one of the pioneering Black radio stations in the country. 
On the occasion of the passing of Al Hobbs, Jay Johnson returned to Indianapolis. He’s rarely been interviewed about his years working with Al at WTLC. AM1310 The Light and 106.7WTLC Journalist Kim Wells sat down with Super Jay Johnson and me in an in-depth remembrance of Al Hobbs’ career as a broadcaster and his influence on not just on the radio station, but community efforts from Indiana Black Expo and much more. Kim Wellss in-depth interview first aired on 106.7WTLC’s Sunday morning Access Indy program. And was rebroadcast this past week on Afternoons with Amos.
