IMPD Chief Paul Ciesielski appeared on Afternoons with Amos defending his controversial decision to promote Scott Hasler to command IMPD’s East District. In 1990 Hasler was involved in the controversial shooting of Leonard Barnett, an unarmed robbery suspect who Hasler said was fleeing, but Barnett had a severely broken foot and was unarmed. Hasler’s promotion has raised deep anger and concern among many in the African-American community.

Authorities said a Helena teen sent out a text message last week in search of pot, but instead of contacting the drug dealer, he hit a wrong number and inadvertently sent the message to Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton.
