As we reported last week, Bernice King has declined the presidency of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), the historic civil rights organization that her father, Martin Luther King, Jr., helped to form.
At the time, Bernice released a statement saying that her decision came “after numerous attempts to connect with the official board leaders on how to move forward under my leadership, unfortunately, our visions did not align.”
The SCLC has been engaged in infighting among board members for months now.
In an exclusive interview with Rhodell Lewis and Praise 102.5, Martin Luther King’s youngest daughter goes into more detail about why she declined the SCLC presidency. She also talked about the state of civil rights in this day and age.
