One of the mini camp holdouts of the Indianapolis Colts will return for sure once training camp begins on August 1st.

The Indianapolis Colts confirmed to IndySportsNation.com on Friday afternoon that safety Antoine Bethea has signed a new long term contract with the team. ESPN is reporting that the deal is four years for a total of $27 million dollars.

He had been offered a one-year tender by the club earlier in the spring.

Bethea, who was absent from OTA’s and mini camp since he didn’t have a contract, will return to a defensive backfield that includes a healthy Bob Sanders and Melvin Bullitt. In 2009, Bethea had 95 tackles and made four interceptions on his way to earning a Pro Bowl nomination.

It was the second in Bethea’s five-year career, which began as a sixth-round pick in the 2006 NBA Draft. Coming out of Howard University, Bethea cracked the starting lineup in his rookie season at free safety and has started in the defensive backfield in all but five games over the past four years.

With Bethea back in the fold, only two players now may possibly be training camp holdouts. Defensive end Robert Mathis and wide receiver Reggie Wayne stayed away from both the voluntary and mandatory workouts as each hope for new contracts after pro bowl seasons.
