PRAIRIE CREEK, Ind. — Police say a woman forced her way into a western Indiana home at gunpoint and then stabbed a husband and wife in an apparent attempt to kidnap their newborn boy.

The man was able to stop the attack and call police to the home in the Vigo County community of Prairie Creek on Wednesday. Police say the woman suffered stab wounds to her back and arm and was taken to an Indianapolis hospital. Her husband was treated at a Terre Haute hospital, while the baby wasn’t harmed.

Sheriff Jon Marvel says 34-year-old Stephanie Foster didn’t know the couple she attacked. He said investigators believe Foster was faking a pregnancy and looking for a baby. Foster was jailed without bond on preliminary charges of attempted murder and attempted kidnapping.
