Two days after the university dismissed men’s basketball coach Mike Rice, Rutgers has fired athletic director Tim Pernetti, according to an ESPN report.

Pernetti came under heavy scrutiny last November for Rutgers’ decision to suspend Rice for three games and levy a $50,000 fine after seeing video of Rice shoving players, throwing basketball at players and using gay slurs.

Assistant coach Jimmy Martelli, who had displayed a similar coaching style during Rutgers’ practices, resigned from his position yesterday.

“I am sickened that as an assistant coach I contributed in any way to an unacceptable culture,” Martelli said in a statement given to The Associated Press. “Wednesday I resigned from Rutgers and I hope that coaches on all levels will learn something important from these events. For my actions, I am deeply sorry and I apologize to the players from the bottom of my heart.”
