A “Star Trek” Phaser rifle once used by Captain Kirk has a new owner. Julien’s Auctions says the rifle sold for 231-thousand dollars, well above the auction house’s 50- to 70-thousand dollar estimate. The one-of-a-kind weapon was built by toy inventor Reuben Klamer at the request of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry. William Shatner, who played Captain James T. Kirk, only used the Phaser rifle in the series’ second pilot. Klamer then took the weapon back, while Kirk used a pistol for the remainder of the next three seasons. The identity of the person who bought the gun has not been revealed.
