The 2012-2013 school year has begun for the Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS).  And the year begins with the selection of a new Superintendent Dr. Lewis Ferebee and a new spirit of common purpose and resolve among members of the IPS School Board.  Board President Diane Arnold, and senior Board Member Rev. Michael Brown appeared on Afternoons with Amos to talk about the new year for IPS.  Arnold and Brown told Amos about the fact that Dr. Ferebee will be officially hired on August 9th and that they expect him to sart work by September 1st.  They were pleased that Ferebee will be an IPS parent as his son will be attending an IPS school.  Arnold and Brown talked about the issues facing IPS this year including resolving their $30 million operating deficit, student achievement and utilization of school buildings.  The Board Members talked about the a set of Guiding Principles the Board adopted and shared with Dr. Ferebee.  That is the road map they’ll use together to move IPS forward.  Both Arnold and Brown talked about the Tony Bennett grading scandal and its impact on IPS students teachers and staff.  They also took questions from listeners.  Click Arrow to Hear Amos’ Interview with IPS Board President Diane Arnold and Member Board Member Michael Brown.
