EXCLUSIVE: Just days after being named President/CEO of the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, Michael Huber appeared on Afternoons with Amos talk talk to the audience and community about his goals as the Chamber’s new leader. In recent years the Chamber has gone through some changes as the organization merged three area economic development agencies into the Chamber of Commerce’s umbrella. That’s led to some confusion as to the role and mission of the Chamber. In the interview, Huber, a former deputy mayor for Economic development for Mayor Greg Ballard, stressed that the Chamber mission remained as to represent the “voice” and views of business in Indianapolis. But Huber also stressed that business leadership in Indianapolis was changing. That is wasn’t just “twenty-five guys sitting around a table” the way it was decades ago. Huber stressed that business leadership in Indianapolis is “more diverse and diffuse” and the Chamber needs to engage younger and up and coming business leaders. As well as engage smaller, more entrepreneurial businesses. Questioned why the Chamber had been quiet on issues like education, Huber said that would be changing. Huber also pledged to be more visible to Indianapolis’ communities, including the African-American community. Something Amos told Huber hadn’t been done by his Chamber predecessor.
