Montell Jordan recently opened up about the importance of spreading God’s word and his decision to leave the music business three years ago.

The full time Worship Leader, 44, is based at Victory World Church in Norcross, Ga., doing what he believes God called him to do and he opened up about why he believes Christians have a duty to “make the name of Jesus famous.” Jordan rose to stardom in 1995 as a popular R&B singer before leaving the music business in 2010 to become a minister and he has never looked back.

“I think it’s important to spread the word of God through music, through art, through film, through television through every medium until all the world knows scripturally [that] every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess,” Jordan told The Christian Post exclusively at the 44th Dove Awards in Nashville, TN.

“So because of that I think that it’s just important that musically, through film, through television through all the arts … every opportunity that Christians have to be a blessing and to make the name of Jesus famous… that is the goal,” he explained.

The “You Are” singer now creates music with his church team, Victory World Music, and earlier this year their “Shake Heaven” album received a Dove Award nomination for Contemporary Gospel/Urban Album of the Year. Jordan explained why exactly he retired from secular music in 2010.

“In 2010 I actually left the music business. I officially retired and I went into fulltime ministry and so the question has been asked did I leave secular music to go and do gospel music and actually what I did was I left the music business to go into fulltime ministry,” he said.
