The U.S. Supreme Court is upholding Michigan’s ban on affirmative action in public college admissions. In a 6-2 ruling on Tuesday, the high court said states can end affirmative action without violating the U.S. Constitution.

This ruling means a state constitution may be altered to remove race as a consideration for college admissions. Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sonia Sotomayor dissented.
