Hip-Hop artist Andy Mineo admitted in a recent interview he would not call himself a Christian rapper, in fact, he revealed he would not even call himself a rapper.

“You can call me anything you want, I choose to not call myself a Christian rapper— I don’t even call myself a rapper for the most part, I call myself a creative,” he said to REVOLT.

Mineo along with many of his other peers in Christian hip-hop and on Reach Records, is often seen as secondary because of his subject matter. Artists such as Lecrae, Trip Lee, KJ-52, and countless others are seen as nothing more than “Christian rappers” and are not given the validation of being a true emcee. However, that stigma appears to be changing as Lecrae has the No. 1 album in the country and is getting much props from mainstream outlets and artists.
