A suspect in the killings of two police officers from Mississippi died in his jail cell over the weekend, The Huffington Post reports.

On Friday, Marvin Banks was found unresponsive in his cell at Forrest County Jail. After being taken to a local hospital, he was pronounced dead. A spokesperson from the Mississippi Department of Public Safety told reporters Banks suffered from an enlarged heart and scar tissue; he believes Banks’ death was due to natural or accidental causes.

Homicide has been ruled out, police say.

The 30-year-old was arrested with his girlfriend Joanie Calloway and brother Curtis earlier this year following the death of Hattiesburg Police officers Benjamin Deen and Liquori Tate. The officers pulled Banks over in early May during a regular traffic stop that turned into a violent shooting exchange. Banks was charged with two counts of capital murder. He was also given a $100,000 bond for one count of grand theft auto and charged with one count of felony firearm possession.

The deaths of Deen and Tate were a shock to the Hattiesburg community. The officers were the first to die in the line of duty in 30 years.

Police told reporters surveillance cameras will be looked at following Banks’ death, although there was no outward trauma to his body. However, over the past year, surveillance has shown excessive force used against many jailed suspects.

Toxicology reports will also be performed; the investigation is ongoing.
