Black Lives Matter activists are continuing to make their voices heard around the nation. In Chicago, they’re calling for Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel to resign.  On Christmas Eve–a huge commercial retail day–demonstrators took to the downtown streets chanting “16 shots and a cover-up”. The chant is a reference to a black teen, Laquan McDonald, shot 16 times by a white Chicago police officer.

Demonstrators also staged a sit-in along the city’s ‘Magnificent Mile,’–the stretch of Michigan Avenue occupied mainly by high-end retailers like Nieman Marcus and the famed Chicago Nike store. Organizers wanted the so-called “Black Christmas” demonstration to mimic last month’s Black Friday protest.
