A teenager is dead after a gunfight at a shopping mall in North Carolina on Christmas Eve. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say a ongoing argument between two groups turned into a gunfight as terrified last-minute shoppers screamed and dove for cover inside Charlotte’s Northlake Mall. Some witnesses said they heard as many as ten shots fired before an off-duty police officer working as a security guard confronted the two groups. Police say the off-duty officer shot and killed a teenager who pointed a gun at him. The Charlotte Observer newspaper reports the teen, Daquan Antonio Westbrook, 18, had a lengthy criminal record involving guns, violence, and drugs. The police officer is only being identified as a 19-year veteran of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. He’s been placed on paid administrative leave, in line with department policy, while the shooting is investigated.### (@PraiseIndy) ###
