While everyone is focused on El Chapo‘s most recent capture, there was an even more notorious drug lord in the ’80s— Pablo Escobar.
Though Escobar’s cocaine business was based in Colombia, one of his safe houses included a mansion in Miami. And after a week of “inspection” performed by professional treasure hunters, the site is being demolished. However, Christian de Berdouare, who now owns the home, claims the looters found “something.”
“It’s either money or it’s gold or it’s jewels or it’s arms or it’s drugs or it’s a dead body,” Berdouare said.
Aside from looters getting ahold of historical goods, police also say a safe from the house was stolen a week before the demolition go-ahead. According to NBC Miami, it’s not clear what the safe contained, but authorities are investigating.
The homeowner realizes the property’s immense value, but is ready to get rid of the bad vibes.
“The reason I bought it is the property is magnificent. The fact that Pablo Escobar bought it, for me, if anything, is a negative. But it’s such a magnificent property that it doesn’t matter. Once we demolish this property … all the bad energies of the house will go bye-bye,” Berdouare told the Miami Herald.
Escobar bought the home in 1980; the property was later seized by the U.S. government. The kingpin was killed in a shootout with Colombian police six years later.
