Total Beauty, a beauty magazine, made a HUGE mistake when they were live tweeting red carpet coverage of Sunday’s Oscars.  They tweeted out a picture of Whoopi Goldberg, and thought it was Oprah.

The tweet said, “We had no idea @Oprah was #tatted, and we love it. #Oscars.”  Within minutes, the hashtag #ThatsNotOprah was trending.  It wasn’t until 40 minutes later that someone at Total Beauty realized they made a mistake and deleted the tweet.

Total Beauty continued to do damage control even after the Oscars were over.  They tweeted out the below tweet, but still received backlash from twitter users.

One twitter user wrote, “The fact you didn’t say ‘charities’ makes me think you haven’t yet realized they are different people.”  Another wrote, “Shhhhhh. Just stop. Take some quiet time to reflect & participate in some diversity training. #ThatsNotOprah.”

Yesterday on The View, Whoopi was asked about her thoughts on the mix up.  She said, “I heard about it this morning. You know, they could have used an orangutan and said: ‘Boy, that orangutan looks good.’ … I feel pretty good if you’re comparing me to Oprah, saying I look like Oprah, that’s not a bad thing. It could have been a lot of worse!”

Goldberg was also asked about the charity donation offer, and she said Total Beauty doesn’t have to do that, because people make mistakes.  She said, “It was an honest mistake. We both look good, Oprah and I!”

It’s good to see Whoopi has such a good sense of humor about the mix up.  You can read more on the topic here, and see Oprah’s reaction to the mix up here.
