Virginia McLaurin

Just two months ago, the White House shared a video to Facebook of 106-Year-Old Virginia McLaurin dancing with the Obamas.  The video has gone viral, racking up over 65 million views and counting.  The now 107-Year-Old McLaurin is recognized by many wherever she goes, but she is now having trouble getting a photo ID.

CBS News reports that McLaurin’s photo ID was stolen a while back, and in order to obtain a new one from the D.C. DMV, she would need to show her U.S. birth certificate, passport, or military ID card.  This is where things get tricky for McLaurin; she doesn’t have any of those documents to prove her identification.  She cannot request a new copy of a birth certificate without a valid photo ID.

McLaurin questions as to weather or not she even had a birth certificate, because it wasn’t until 1915 that South Carolina started to require the filing of birth certificates.  McLaurin’s son states that everyone recognizes her from the viral video with the President Of The United States, and it confuses his mother as to why it’s so difficult for her to get a new photo ID.

McLaurin says she is glad she lives in a state that doesn’t require a valid photo ID to vote.  You can read more on the story here.
