Scandal‘s Kerry Washington sat down with comedian Aziz Ansari to speak about race in Hollywood as part of Variety Studio: Actors on Actors series.  The two discussed why they believe the television industry has gotten so much praise in the recent years for having more diversity on screen.

Washington asked Ansari, “I feel like everybody’s talked so much about how there’s more diversity on TV than in film. I don’t understand why. Do you?”  Ansari, creator and star of Master of None, his own Nexflix original series, struggled to find the answer.  He finally stated that it could be due to the fact that the shows creators are becoming more diverse.

The two pointed out that the #OscarsSoWhite controversy this past year helped shed a light that it isn’t just Hollywood, but all industries are lacking diversity.  They also discussed that since they have made names for themselves in Hollywood, they hold a responsibility to foster diverse talent.
