Zendaya took to snapchat a few days ago to share an unpleasant experience she had at Vons grocery store.  The 20-year-old actress says she tried to buy $400 in gift cards from the supermarket, and the cashier allegedly refused to serve her.

In the snapchat videos, Zendaya explains, “The lady that was helping us… I don’t think she was a huge fan of our skin tone.”  Zendaya went on to explain that after the clerk didn’t sell her the gift cards, the clerk then threw her wallet back at her, causing her cards to fall out.

In true Zendaya fashion, she always has a classy response for rudeness, and this instance was no different.  She said on snapchat, “You know what, it’s all love.  May she go on to have a wonderful life.”

Now Vons grocery store has issued a statement to People on the matter.  They stated, “At Vons, we strive to treat each and every customer with the utmost respect. There is a policy that limits gift card purchases using a credit card. Zendaya was able to purchase gift cards up to our limit, and we apologize for any inconvenience or misunderstanding. We respect Zendaya’s voice in the community and similarly are committed to diversity and inclusion. Moreover, we understand that race is a sensitive issue in America and view this experience as a reminder that every interaction is an opportunity to treat each customer as we ourselves would like to be treated.”
