Chancelor Bennett, better known as Chance The Rapper, recently sat down with Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner to discuss recent plans that would cut Chicago public school’s funding.  After unsuccessful meetings, The Chicago rapper announced last night that he will donate $1 million to CPS.

Bennett stated in a news conference, “Today, I’m proud to announce that I am donating $1 million to CPS to support arts and enrichment programming.”

Bennett also donated an additional $100,000 to give in $10,000 increments directly to specific high schools and elementary schools.  He has linked his website’s homepage to socialworkschi.org to encourage others to donate to CPS.  He has yet to announce all 10 schools that will receive the $10,000.

Many have praised the unsigned 3-time Grammy award winner for his efforts, including former FLOTUS, Michelle Obama.
