It’s a big day for Boilermakers, Bulldogs & Fighting Irish!

The NCAA Tournament ‘Round of 64’ tips off on this pre-St. Patty’s Day Thursday leaving lots of teams looking to exhibit skill while welcoming a bit of luck usually associated with the Irish.

Three Indiana schools are getting in on today’s action.

Purdue is the fourth-seed in the Midwest Region and will take on Vermont in Milwaukee. The Boilermakers play tonight at  7:27 p.m.

Villanova v Butler

Butler is holding down the South Region as the fourth-seed and will face Winthrop, also in Milwaukee. The Bulldogs play this afternoon with a 1:30 p.m. tip off. (Blue III will help them do more than “Dream Like a Bulldog”…fans are expecting them to play like champions. ‘That’s my Dawg!’)

Notre Dame earned the five-seed in the West Regions and meets Princeton today in Buffalo. The Irish tip at 12:15 p.m. All games are Eastern Time.

On St. Patrick’s Day, Friday, downtown Indy will be crawling with activity. Between the parade and green-donned leprechauns everywhere, college hoops fans will converge on Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The home of the Pacers is the site of four NCAA Tournament games Friday.

Michigan takes on Oklahoma State at 12:15 p.m. and Louisville meets Jacksonville State immediately after. Then in nighttime hoops action, Dayton tips off with Wichita State at 7:10 p.m. with Kentucky and Northern Kentucky closing out the slate with late game action immediately following. If you want a glimpse of these teams in person open practices are free to the public Thursday, with doors opening at 11 a.m.

Some b-ball fans prefer the pro game…where many of these college players are trying to get to. So in the NBA, Paul George had a great night for the Indiana Pacers during Wednesday night’s home game. He exploded for six threes and 39 points as the Pacers smashed the Hornets 98-77 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The Pacers pulled away in the second half, outscoring Charlotte by 21. Monta Ellis was also a factor adding 16 points off the bench for the Blue ‘n Gold. The Pacers currently hold the sixth spot in the East. They hit the road visiting Toronto to take on the Raptors on Sunday.
