EXCLUSIVE: Amos’ Conversation With Dr. Maya Angelou

Maya_AngelouUsually,I don’t get nervous before an interview. But I did this time.  Dr. Maya Angelou is living history. And a woman who is truly a “Global Renaissance Woman”.  Twenty-five years ago she kicked off Butler University’s Celebration of Diversity lecture series.  She returns to Butler’s Clowes Hall Tuesday, March 26th in a sold out lecture/conversation.  Many know about Maya Angelou’s poetry, her books, her movies, her friendship with Oprah Winfrey and others.  But many don’t know that she was a young single mom. That she worked as a San Francisco cable car operator.  That she toured Europe in a production of Porgy and Bess. That she was a talented dancer studying with Martha Graham and performing with Alvin Ailey. Many don’t know her friendships with Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King. Or her work in the civil rights movement. She’s performed and directed movies, performed on stage, written movie scripts, poetry and books, including her newest book Mom & Me & Mom coming in April. I talked with Maya Angelou by phone from her North Carolina home. In our brief but engaging interview I asked about different aspects of her life well lived, including her takes on Malcolm and Martin, the world today and African-Americans today.  Hope you enjoy one of the highlights of my career as I talked with one of the world’s most unique and engaging women.  Click Link To Hear my Interview with Maya Angelou.
