George Clinton Book Launch Event

Darryl Strawberry had it all! During his 17-year career, he helped lead the New York Mets to a World Series championship in 1986 and the New York Yankees to three World Series championships in 1996, 1998 and 1999. A popular player during his career, Strawberry was voted to the All-Star Game eight straight times from 1984–1991. Strawberry was formerly an analyst for SportsNet New York. These days he is very busy changing lives and sharing his story.

Currently he and his wife run a ministry and are discussing their new book

Life has changed dramatically for the pair as together they’ve rebuilt their lives and are sharing how they did it in a new book, ‘The Imperfect Marriage: Help For Those Who Think It’s Over.’

“Marriages need help today. We need to survive. This book is about real people, real problems seeking solutions, real hope and real help,” said Tracy Strawberry.

“(It’s about) ‘me’ first before ‘we.’ If I don’t get ‘me’ together first, you can’t put a ‘we’ together,” said Darryl Strawberry.

The former all-star was quite clear on the exact moment. It was the day his then-girlfriend told him they were not having sex until they were living their lives right.

Strawberry explained it, “There was a defining moment in my life when me and Tracy came to St. Louis together, boyfriend and girlfriend, and we were shacking up and living together. She woke up one morning — she had been studying the Word — and she woke up and says, ‘I’m not doing this any more. We’re not having sex any more.  He continued, “I said what? And she said, ‘we’re not having sex any more. I’m done, I need to try and live my life right.’

“That was a defining moment in my life,” Strawberry added, “and I left St. Louis for a while and went on my own journey for six months.”

Strawberry went on to explain how spent the time away from Tracy, praying and visiting church “three to four times a week.”

And then, one night, while praying on his knees, next to a bed in his sister’s house, he said, “God told me, don’t open the Bible…I’ve been waiting for you…and I just cried.”

Along with operating their ministry, the Strawberry’s are currently promoting their new book, “The Imperfect Marriage (Help for those who think it’s over).”

On January 24, 2014, The Darryl Strawberry Recovery Center (DSRC) celebrated its Grand Opening at the first of several planned locations throughout the US in St. Cloud, Florida. DSRC was founded in partnership with Darryl Strawberry and Oglethorpe Healthcare Inc. to provide athletes and individuals suffering from substance abuse with a center for excellence in addiction treatment and recovery. The facility features carefully planned and staffed grounds that include spacious rooms, comfortable common areas and expansive outdoor recreational spaces.
