Inez Andrews, the sprawling soprano from the legendary Caravans has passed away. Gospel Music critic Bob Marovich reports that Ms. Andrews died today after a long bought with illness.

The voice of Inez Andrews is distinctively recognized as the member o the group who called on Mary in the song “Mary Don’t You Weep.” She was also the leaders of the Andrewettes and made the song “Lord, Don’t Move My Mountain” a gospel and R&B hit.

Andrews was expected to receive the Ambassador Dr. Bobby Jones Legends Award at the 2013 Stellar Awards Ceremony.

Albertina Walker, who started the Caravans passed away in 2010. Original members Pastor Shirley Caesar and Dorothy Norwood remain.
