Wide RevicerThe Indianapolis Colts search for a replacement for wide receiver Donnie Avery could be zeroing in on Darrius Heyward-Bey. Heyward-Bey, a free agent who started four years for the Oakland Raiders, is scheduled to visit the Colts, perhaps as soon as today, NFL.com has reported.

The report could not be immediately confirmed.

Colts owner Jim Irsay prompted a league-wide guessing game last week when he tweeted about the Colts pursuit of a free agent wide receiver.

Heyward-Bey would be an upgrade over Avery and he has Avery-like speed. Heyward-Bey ran a 4.3-second 40-yard dash at the 2009 NFL Combine, and with T.Y. Hilton would give the Colts two wide receivers who could stretch a defense.

Heyward-Bey (6-2, 216) was the seventh overall pick in the 2009 draft. He has not lived up to expectations.

He caught 41 passes for 606 yards and five touchdowns last season. He totaled 64 catches for 975 yards and four touchdowns in 2011, his best season.
