St. Louis officials are expecting the state of emergency to be lifted by Wednesday, the St. Louis Dispatch reports.

County Executive Steve Stenger announced the state of emergency Monday after protests turned violent on the Sunday anniversary of Michael Brown’s death. During the evening, Tyrone Harris, 18, was charged with multiple counts of assault and gun possession for exchanging fire with police Sunday night.

Law enforcement arrested more than one hundred non-violent protesters throughout the week. No major incidents were reported on Tuesday, and authorities are hoping to lift the ban on Wednesday.

The St. Louis Police Department, however, did announce that officers were hit with bottles Tuesday evening.

While the arrests in Ferguson did not turn violent, many slammed the police for allegedly targeting social activists DeRay Mckesson and Johnetta Elzie. Civil rights activist Cornel West was also arrested on Monday outside of the city’s courthouse.

Lawmakers pleaded with citizens to keep protests and rallies peaceful, but with police presence involving tear gas and militarized gear, the unrest continued. Mayor James Knowles called the incidents “disappointing,” telling reporters he hopes the town can continue to rebuild.
